Come to the American Red Cross for the best training and tips on how to be safe in, on, and around the water! The American Red Cross has been the leader in swimming and lifeguarding since 1914. Now the winning tradition continues with an exciting new collection of courses designed to make learning easier and to help you benefit from the latest research on instructional techniques.

Water Safety

  • Parent & Child Aquatics: ages 6mos - 5yrs

American Red Cross water programs are taught at various area facilities and high schools. Instructors, as well as course dates and times are set up and managed by the individual site.

Many of the St. Joseph County area high schools have active WSI and Lifeguarding programs. Students can sign up at their school, (if offered) or through the South Bend Parks Dept. which manages all of the water courses for South Bend High Schools (Clay, Riley, Washington , Adams).  Visit the South Bend Park website, http://www.sbpark.org/

Children’s Learn-to-Swim classes are taught by Water Safety Instructors at many area pools; dates and times for these classes can be found on the facility website, or by calling the contact number.
